Sake Cafe
Embark on a solo sake journey at this cozy cafe. The friendly owner will guide you through various sake tastings!
Hours: Usually open from 6 PM to midnight.
Sometimes closed on Wednesdays—double-check in advance.
Insider Tip: The owner may not speak fluent English, but is incredibly warm and welcoming. Use Google Translate or simple phrases to enhance your sake experience.
Solo Traveler Friendly: Great place for solo travelers looking for an authentic and cozy sake-tasting experience.
Kohaku at Park Hyatt Kyoto
For breathtaking views and an air of exclusivity, Kohaku at the Park Hyatt Kyoto is unmatched.
Imagine sipping exquisite cocktails while gazing upon the iconic Kiyomizu-dera pagoda bathed in the soft glow of evening lights.
A word to the wise: reservations are hard to come by for non-hotel guests.
Hours: Open from 5:30 PM to midnight.
Tip: Reservations are Required. Reservations open usually around 4 pm for that evening. Make sure to show up in person, scan the QR code and get on the waitlist.
Bee’s Knees
Unwind in the warm ambiance of this hidden gem, known for its incredible craft cocktails. Arrive early to snag a spot and be prepared to be amazed by their drink selection.
Hours: Open from 6 PM to 1 AM
Generally closed on Sundays.
Tip: This spot is small and hidden behind a yellow door (can you find it?) The bartenders are super knowledgeable, so don’t hesitate to ask for a recommendation if you’re unsure what to order.
L’Escamoteur
Hidden away in Kyoto’s heart lies L’Escamoteur, a bar that blends the art of mixology with captivating magic. This fantastical escape transports you to a world of wonder.
Be prepared to arrive early, as seating is limited. The bartenders, like skilled magicians, take center stage, meticulously crafting your drink with a touch of theatricality.
They announce – your “drink magic” is ready so if you are not seated at the bar, you can come over and watch the magic happen.

Apotheca
A True Speakeasy- Behind an unmarked door. Tell the bartender your taste preference- sweet, sour, etc and your liquor of choice.
Hours: Open from 6 PM to midnight.
Typically closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Tip: There’s no menu—just tell the bartender your taste preferences (sweet, sour, etc.) and favorite liquor, and they’ll craft something just for you.
It’s mostly frequented by locals, so you may get curious looks, but it adds to the charm!
Bar Indigo Kyoto
