First stop: Starfield COEX Mall. This multi-level marvel boasts everything from luxury brands to quirky Korean fashion.
But here’s the real kicker: it houses the world’s largest underground aquarium! Witnessing the vibrant marine life was mesmerizing, a calming contrast to the bustling crowds.
If cosplay is your thing, head to COEX on a weekend. You’ll be treated to a dazzling display of elaborate costumes and characters brought to life.
A Bibliophile’s Dream: Sink into the Starfield Library
Hidden in the COEX Mall there is a a bright spot for bookworms: the Starfield Library.
Towering bookshelves reaching towards the ceiling create a truly awe-inspiring spectacle. Grab a coffee, find a cozy nook, and lose yourself in a world of stories.
Pro tip: You only need max 30 minutes here if you are coming for pictures. If you are coming to read books then take your time. There are also a few cafes around the library to check out.
If you are coming to visit the area strictly for the Library, I would find other things to do to maximize your visit. There is a lot to do in the Mall, so plan your time accordingly.
Don’t Forget Your Manners: While photos are allowed, be mindful of other patrons and avoid using flash photography.
The Iconic Gangnam Statue
No Gangnam trip is complete without a visit to the iconic Gangnam Style statue. Yes, it’s a tourist hotspot, but it’s a fun way to pay homage to the catchy song that took the world by storm.
While I was there many people were doing the dance just to have a bit of fun while they waited to take pictures with the staute.
What Else to See in Gangnam:
Beyond the glitz and glam, Gangnam is a microcosm of modern Korea. It’s a place where tradition meets innovation, where luxury brands co-exist with hidden gems.
Exploring this dynamic district gives you a deeper understanding of Korean culture and its place in the global landscape.
Gangnam is known for its upscale vibe. While there are plenty of affordable finds, be prepared for slightly higher prices than other parts of Seoul.
But Gangnam isn’t just about flashy malls. Step off the main drag and explore the charming backstreets.
You’ll find cozy cafes, traditional Korean restaurants, and lesser known places like the Bongeunsa Temple, a Buddhist sanctuary offering a serene escape from the city buzz.
They do allow overnight stays, so if that is something that interests you it is worth booking.
Also you can’t walk down the main streets of Gangnam without noticing signs for skin clinics or K-Beauty products. This seems to be “THE AREA” to come to. My advice is to do your research.
