More Than Just Stars: A Family Legacy

Myeongdong Kyoja is all about delicious simplicity and warm hospitality. It is a local favorite with good reason. Their menu boasts a mere four items, each perfected over generations.

Tips for Visiting

Make sure you get here before 11:00 am. I know its early but if you don’t want to wait that is when you should come.

That is when the lunch crowd and locals start coming in. The line will wrap around and go out the door. The restaurants are much bigger than they look from the outside.

However, the line does move fast so don’t be intimidated.

This is a perfect place for solo female travelers. They have tables set up with table sized barricades in front of you so you can eat your meal without looking at the person in front of you.

In fact, every time I have eaten here, people are usually watching something on their phones while eating.

You Sit Down, You Order, You Pay, You Get Kimchi, A Robot will most likely bring the food over and then a server will give it to you

Here is what I ate:

Kalguksu (Knife-Cut Noodle Soup): This is their signature dish, and for good reason. The chewy, irregular-shaped noodles dance in a light, yet deeply flavorful broth. It’s pure comfort in a bowl.

Mandu (Dumplings): These aren’t your average dumplings. Packed with juicy pork and veggies, their delicate wrappers melt in your mouth.

But Myeongdong Kyoja isn’t just about the food (although, let’s be honest, the food is pretty darn incredible). The atmosphere is pure, unadulterated Seoul.

The no-frills setting with bustling energy and friendly staff had me feeling like a local in no time.
